Why should your dog chew on a split antler?
Our split antlers are made from whole deer antlers which have been split down the middle to expose the mineral-rich marrow. The marrow is made up of mainly calcium and phosphorus, but also includes other vital minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron, sulphur and zinc. These minerals are vital for keeping bones and muscles strong. Our high-quality deer antlers are completely safe for your dog to chew because they are very unlikely to split and leave sharp edges, splinter or become brittle.
Dental benefits of split antlers
The main health benefit of split deer antlers is to help in dental care for your dog. Gnawing away at the natural dental chew helps remove plaque from their teeth and helps prevent tartar build up. It has been shown that if a dog chews on an antler for thirty minutes per day it can reduce the plaque on their teeth by 70%.
Can puppies enjoy split antlers?
Deer antlers are good treats for puppies, especially when they are teething to relieve the discomfort of their adult teeth coming through. They must be provided with caution though, as puppies are more at risk of swallowing objects. Therefore, make sure you select a large enough size which cannot be swallowed, yet small enough for your puppy to still chew it effectively.
For most dogs, deer antlers are a very safe treat but if your dog is an aggressive chewer then there is a risk of tooth fracture.
